2 car accident Eagle Staff Report A three-car accident on Texas 79 between
Hearne and Franklin in Robertson County on Saturday afternoon left one man dead
and four people injured. The Department of Public Safety reported that a Dodge
headed west veered into oncoming traffic on Texas 79 shortly after 3 p.m., first
striking a Volkswagen, which ended up in a ditch on the side of the road, and
then colliding head-on with a Nissan. The driver of the Dodge, who was
pronounced dead at the scene, was identified by DPS as Steven Lucas of Tyler.
The accident caused traffic to be directed into one lane on Texas 79 for about
three hours. The man driving the Nissan was taken by helicopter to Scott and
White in Temple and was reported in critical condition late Saturday. The woman
who was in the car with him was taken to St. Joseph in Bryan, where she was also

Eastbound traffic on Jefferson Blvd. was closed for about 45 minutes while crews
